When one of your favorite maternity gown designers (i'll talk more about that in just a minute) has a gorgeous pregnant daughter, and you are asked to travel to photograph her and her sweet family - you GO! Kirsten is also a fellow photographer ( Check out Kirstens Captured Moments Photography if you are in the Sacramento area and need an amazing Maternity or Newborn photographer) so I knew her visions would be perfect, and the pressure was on to bring them to life! In planning and preparing for the session, we had originally settled on a location just outside of Sacramento, but as the day approached, mother nature had other plans and forcast showed rain the entire day. 100% chance, THE. ENTIRE. DAY. This put a damper on things to say the least, and left us scrambling with only 48 hours left to find a new location somewhere outside of the thunderstorms area. Having lived in the San Francisco Bay area for about a third of my life, I was familiar with all the beautiful locations it has to offer. We considered San Francisco Presidio Park or Palace of Fine Arts. We considered the Redwood Forests further north, and heading out to the coast towards Santa Cruz. We even considered Yosemite and Lake Tahoe for something even more different. But, with limited time preventing us from getting the proper permits, we found West 12 Ranch in Lodi, an outdoor photography studio (brilliant idea right!?) - and it could not have been more perfect. With acres of amazing oportunities, barns, horses, vintage trucks, weeping willows, a prop barn and the most amazing light - it truly was the most beautiful location we could have asked for. The owners were so welcoming, and since we were only one of 2 groups there, we pretty much had free reigns of the property! This location is every photographers dream come true! We peeked into the prop barn for some fun pieces to incoorporate, and came out with a vintage chair and a rocking horse. All four gowns used in this session were handmade by Miss Madison Photo Props and they were the perfect pop of glam and elegance this rustic location needed. Over the course of two hours, we had a chance to shoot various locations throughout the property, each one more beautiful than the one before. The gowns, in a complimentary pallete of pinks and neutrals, worked so well with each location, but the best part was ending the night with the rose gold sequin, Tristan Gown. It sparkled as it caught the last few minutes of light and reflected the most beautiful glow which photographed so beautifuly! Here are some of my favorite shots from this session! I cannot wait to go back and use this location again!
