WHAT IS A FRESH 48 SESSION?

Fresh 48 photography is a special session for families who want the first few hours in their little ones life documented without having the entire labor or birth captured. These sessions are held within the first 24-48 hours of your baby’s life and are a wonderful way to remember that first day forever. We will capture beautiful photos of your little one snuggled in your arms, the excitement on your faces, all the sweet baby details (lips, hands, feet, hair, belly button etc.), first feedings, diaper changes, meeting family etc. I will come to your place of birth (hospital, NICU, birth center etc) and will capture your baby’s sweet new moments in a fresh, natural way. The session is relaxed. There’s no need to plan for the perfect outfits, put on makeup or make sure every hair is in its place. You’ll love having photos of this special momet to look back on.

Please note that this is not a traditional newborn session which generally involves posing/props/studio lighting etc. This session is designed to be documented from a “fly on the wall” perspective, telling the story of your baby’s beginning in an authentic way!

HOW DO I PREPARE?

Once you’re in active labor, typically your partner or someone on your birth team will call/text/email me (the sooner the better!) to let me know so I can prep my gear and clear my schedule. Once baby is here (YAY!) we’ll then schedule a time during daylight hours (I’m a natural light photographer) for me to come to your birth place. I always recommend that if possible, baby is changed, swaddled and fed shortly before my arrival — this way he/she is extra sleepy and cozy! You do not need to stress about making your hospital room spotless — the point of this lifestyle session is to capture the room, the moment, as is. No need to stress about doing your hair and makeup either if you don’t want to. I’ve had mommies that felt more refreshed for portraits after a shower and a some light makeup and others that went all natural — it’s whatever you’re most comfortable with. For outfits, a neutral everyday look is best — moms have worn a robe, a grey/white cardigan, pajama pants… again, whatever you are most comfortable and feel yourself in. Dads can wear something as simple as a solid white t-shirt and jeans. Baby is typically just swaddled in their hospital blanket.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Each session is custom to the client, but I typicaly start the session before even coming into your room. Your little one’s story begins outside of the four walls where they were born, and for this reason I include images of the hospital (or place of birth), from a storytelling perspective as I make my way to your room. We will capture whatever life looks like in that moment. We are on baby time, so we will document snuggles, feedings, diaper changes, visits with whoever is in the room, sweet baby details etc. Since hospital rooms can be quite busy and poorly list or have a yellow color cast, most clients prefer their images in black which embraces the moody intimate vibe in the room, while keeping the focus on your little one.

Check out these slideshow videos for an idea of what a typical session can look like.
